POTTERIES

Over 1500 potteries are known to have operated in the Staffordshire district alone. This database does not attempt a comprehensive description of these potteries but concentrates on those identified on ceramics in New Zealand historic sites. You can view information on individual potters and their marks on the posttery.

C.P & Co

Country: Date Range:
Description: Two marks found on Willow pattern plates include the initials ?C.P.& Co.? set below a scroll cartouche that reads ?W[arranted] Staffordshire? (Figure 3.7). The addition of both the ampersand and the term ?W[arranted] Staffordshire? excludes attribution of this mark to either the Scottish Clyde Pottery, or the Cambellfield Pottery in Glasgow who both used similar initialled manufacturing marks. The only other manufacturer recorded as using this mark is George Proctor and Co, who operated the Gladstone Pottery at Longton between 1891-1940 (Godden 1968:145).Source:
