Description:
| Technique: Transfer-print | Archaeological Notes: This is a simple border design that consists of a zigzag pattern around the rim with an undulating banner or ribbon motif set beneath (see illustration in Bedford 1986: 83, plate 9, b). This pattern is typically rendered in brown, but the example from Butler?s Point is green. The two examples of this pattern recovered from Brown?s Mill along with the 18 examples from the Halfway House Hotel all carry the manufacturing marks of Pinder Bourne & Co (Brassey 1990: 37; Bedford 1986: 74). A further five examples from the Halfway House Hotel carry either the Pinder Bourne & Co mark in conjunction with a Doulton mark, or just a Doulton manufacturing mark (Bedford 1986: 74). These latter examples indicate that this pattern may date to either Pinder Bourne & Co?s works between ca 1862-1882, or the Doulton works that superceded Pinder Bourne & Co from 1882 onwards. |
